Experiment 005

Canopy versus substrate PAR

Measuring the same positions at substrate and at canopy height as stems fill in.

Planned

Question

How much does measured light change between substrate and canopy as the scape grows in?

Background

The standing survey was taken with stems short. As they grow, the leaves that matter rise several inches toward the light, so the figure that describes a plant's conditions changes without the fixture changing at all.

Hypothesis

Positions currently reading below their working range at substrate level will move into range as the plants gain height, without any change to the light.

Recorded before measuring, so it can be shown to have been wrong.

Equipment

Method

Not run yet. The method is set out under Measurements below.

Measurements

  • Planned: PPFD at substrate level and at canopy level for the same positions
  • Planned: canopy height per position at the time of measurement

Observations

No observations yet. This experiment has not produced data.

Future work

  • Repeat at intervals as the scape fills in, rather than once.
