Overview

Not yet documented.

Why I chose it

Used as the base layer under the aquasoil to keep the substrate porous and give the root zone somewhere to establish.

What I've learned

No long-term observations recorded yet.

What others report

ADA describes the product as porous volcanic stone carrying organic nutrients and bacterial additives, intended to keep water moving through the substrate and give roots somewhere to run. Community opinion is genuinely split: a recurring view is that plain lava rock plus a considered dosing routine achieves much the same thing for a fraction of the cost, and that the stated benefits are hard to separate from the aquasoil above them. This tank cannot settle that question — it has only ever been run one way, with no controlled comparison.

Included for context only. None of it was measured or observed on this aquarium, and it carries no weight against anything published elsewhere on this site.
