An active aquasoil was chosen deliberately: it drives carbonate hardness down and supplies nutrients from the root zone, which suits the low-KH approach this tank is run on.
What I've learned
·Fresh soil releases ammonia for the first several weeks, and that decline is being documented rather than assumed (Experiment 003).
·The soil pulls carbonate hardness toward zero, which is why CO₂ here is read from a pH drop rather than a pH/KH table.
