Overview

Not yet documented.

Why I chose it

An active aquasoil was chosen deliberately: it drives carbonate hardness down and supplies nutrients from the root zone, which suits the low-KH approach this tank is run on.

What I've learned

  • Fresh soil releases ammonia for the first several weeks, and that decline is being documented rather than assumed (Experiment 003).
  • The soil pulls carbonate hardness toward zero, which is why CO₂ here is read from a pH drop rather than a pH/KH table.

Installation

Not yet documented.

Configuration

  • Layered over Power Sand
  • Run with heavy water changes through the startup period

Maintenance

Not yet documented.

Known limitations

Not yet documented. Absence here means nothing has been written down, not that there are none.

Current observations

  • Ammonia release tracked from setup to consecutive zero readings (Experiment 003).

Maintenance history

No service dates recorded yet. Scheduled replacement applies to consumables; this item is tracked by condition instead.

Future upgrade considerations

  • Documenting how long the ammonia release lasts against the published expectation.
